I recently purchased a Grateful dead record off of ebay. It has a blank sleeve and that says nothing except "Grateful Dead Live" handwriten. The record only has the track listing Side 1 - Know you Rider, Casey Jones, Uncle John's Band Side 2 - Sugar Magnolia, Good Lovin. It also says MEL - 77 on the record. It sounds like an early 70's recording. Just wondering if anyone knew exactly what this is, who made it, where it came from?. Just curious and thought it was interesting. Take Care everyone. Maybe not a miracle, but still. . . Looking for Garcia on the S. S. President (New Orleans) 11/3/82. Incredible night on the Mississippi. Just a few feet away from him. I have a partial that I picked up somewhere, but I'm hoping some kind soul has the full show. Also, hoping and praying that a soundboard appears from somewhere of the 10/18 and 10/19/80 shows at the Saenger in New Orleans. I have aud recordings (for which I am enternally grateful) but would love to hear them again clear. From what I've heard/read even the band thought these shows were incredible. . . Figured if there was a place that these could be found, this would be it. Peace y'all.

(let's do a mind melt....first "Rooster") 9/15/82 Capital Center, Landover, MD I and II (nice audience tape, uptempo show...First "Touch of Grey") 4/9/85 Philly Spectrum I & II SB w/ audience mix. CRISP...The first set is any collector's "MUST" with a "Midnight hour-Walkin the Dog-Big Boss Man opening 3 songs! Not to mention the rest of this HIGH ENERGY affair cooks. Get it for the 1st set alone! 6/30/85 Merriweather Post Pavillion, Columbia, MD I & II (Good time show with what myself (and a lot of others) consider to be the best Shakedown ever...what a "all one mind" jam it has...low Gen SBs) 7/1/85 Merriweather Post Pavillion I & II (Just a pickup of what they started the night before) and you can't beat the quaility of these SBs. 11/1/85 Richmond, VA Coliseum I & II...(Killer low gen boards and arguably (though no argument in my eyes) the best show of 1985...probably one of the best shows of the 80's. 3/19/86 Hampton, VA Coilseum - I & II Low Gen Audience (overall great show, first of the few "Visions of Johanna") 3/20/86 Hampton I & II...low gen aud. (everybody's gotta have the first Box of Rain in 13 years, even though the Althea beforehand is torturous with Jerry's fumbling of the lyrics. 12/27/86 Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium Oakland CA I & II. (low gen audience). Trippy show. Great "Dancin" and just overall nice performance. Those early "jerry's back shows really are worth having. next 3 I have both sets of each show. 12/28/86 (as above...) 12/30/86 (as above PLUS this show just was spectacularly played) 12/31/86 (well, it's NYE, show was "OK" but was nice quality tapes and worth any collection. 3/22/87 Hampton I & II - Board with audience mix.(NICE) Back on the east coast again after a long hiatus for Jer & the boys. Just the shear ENERGY is worth having this gem. 3/23/87 Hampton I & II - Board w/ aud mix low gen. If you don't have this show. YOU NEED IT. I prefer the 1st set with a SWEET "Stranger" and it just gets better. 3/24/87 Hampton II - Board/aud mix...the TERRAPIN for the ages. The band plays the audience, the audience plays the band, the energy BLEW THE ROOF OFF the coliseum on this night. Still sends shivers when I think about what we were all part of. ; ) I could go on, and have SO many more great tapes that are low gen SB's. I had/have a very good source close to Healy so that helped. (as well as lots of backstage visits : ) but just to name a few more off the top of my head, here are more without details, but WORTH the have. I have just a handful of tapes. I recall one recording from April 85' at the Philadelphia Spectrum. I think it was April. Jerry's vocals sounded like Kermit the Frog. Have a few 76' sets and I think a complete 77 winterland show--complete 91' June Charlotte, NC and Greensboro, NC shows. Complete 90' July Raleigh, NC show. The jam after "Uncle John's Band" was great at this show. I am disappointed in the lack of anything past 92' on the Dick's Pick Series. I would have thought the last GD show at Soldier Field would have been preserved on CD for the ages. I want to have more 93-95 stuff.

Ok here is my problem.... (like we all don't have plenty of those) Years ago I had a show that i traded for, ummm well, not sure what it was now that i gave up, but i do know it was a smoking Laguna soundboard that i got. While the show was awesome the real gem on the tape was the filler. It was a skit done by Jerry and Phil set in the future in Golden Gate Park. Nearest i can figure it must have been from a FM broadcast made for a New Years Show maybe. But who knows?..... Well that is what I'm asking.....lol Any help would be ..ahh... well helpful..... lol thanx folks and Stay Kind

speaking of great shows.,.. there was a show that i previously had a tape of (the date escapes me now), but it had an amazing dark star... it was a '70s recording i'm almost positive... one of those dark stars that was around 30 or so minutes and had (i think) two specific parts (one around 8 min maybe, the other later in the song) that crescendo to the point where it makes you drive faster and you have to keep yr cool. very jammy stuff. any help would be appreciated in tracking this show date down again. i misplaced the recording i had. feel free to email me at my username at hotmail. thanks guys!

Could be the best show ever, also has a KILLER Dew and the "Sing me back Home" is one of the most tasteful and sweet songs I have heard by the Dead. Words do not describe what is going on during the re-enter of "The Other One" out of "Dew", some of the most interesting stuff I have come across over my years of mining...YOU MUST HEAR THIS!!!!!! Bob Weir sounds like Kimock!!!!! I can see where Steve picked up some of his swirls...Keith and Pig were meant to play together, it's a shame that the Thunderbird got the best of him... hey now, i've just recently discovered how cool 1980 is. Brent's still new and his voice sounds different than i've ever heard him, esp. on 9-6-80 (Lewiston, ME). many of the '80 shows have SICK Strangers, as well as UNBELIEVABLE Lost>Saints, and AWESOME Altheas. just three adjectives to describe some of the music. check out this show for Brent's voice, the three aforementioned songs, and the Alabama opener (which i absolutely love from 1980--anyone else think Alabama is one of the most underrated Dead songs of all-time?). also, check out April Fool's 1980 (smokin' show), 1/13/80, and 5/7/80 (WOW--at Barton Hall, first and only Playin' in the Barn--check it out). these are all just imho. ymmv, of course. peace. I mostly have dead but I do have one show from Marley when he played in Pittsburgh, then I also have one Zepplin show and a Garcia & John Kahn show as well. Id love to get this show recorded only because I attended it. There's definitely some shows from the 70s that were epic and hard to match. Ive heard Cal Expo in 89 was the best show that some people have ever attended. For heads old and new. I want to get a copy of Oregon State Prison. Was that 1982?? For about the past ten years, I had 8 Dick'sPick's and a copy of Cats Under the Stars as my Grateful Dead collection, so to me , this will always be my essential Dead collection, proven, tried and true. Dick's Pick's v. 12 3 CD set from Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island on 6/26/74 and Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on 6/28/74. v.18 3 CD set from Dane County Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin on 2/3/78 and the Uni-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa on 2/5/78. v.19 3 CD set from the Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 10/19/73. v.20 4 CD set with material from the 9/25/76 show at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland and the 9/28/76 show at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, New York. v.21 3 CD set with material from the 11/1/85 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia plus some tunes from 9/2/80 v.31 4 CD set featuring performances from 8/4 and 8/5/1974 at the Philadelphia Civic Center in Philadelphia, PA and 8/6/1974 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ the other two were 11/8/69, and 2/11-14/70, but I don't have the cases anymore to see the v. #'s Also, I now have Nightfall of Diamonds, and would reccomend that as a desrt island selection, also.

How about :3/1/69, 2/13/70, 2/23/74 II (awesome 'Row Jimmy->WRS), 6/18/74 II (WRS!!!), 5/8/77 II, 6/28/85 II, 10/4/87 just to name a few!

They played a total of four shows in San Bernardino, CA, at the Swing Auditorium (3 of which I was fortunate enough to see--the other one, I was too young). Of the four, my favorite (probably because of the near-perfect "He's Gone" that was done to honor the memory of John Lennon) was December 12, 1980. Second to that was their tour-opening show on February 26, 1977 (when they premiered "Terrapin Station" and "Estimated Prophet," but not to be missed is their December 13, 1969 show, which I think is one of their best non-Bay Area shows of '69. Their tour opener at the Swing on January 6, 1978 COULD have been one of their best, too, but that was one of Jerry's legendary laryngitis shows (however, when he handed off all of the singing duties to Bobby for the second set and concentrated on his guitar, he played with incredible passion). Hell, a box set of these four shows would be a killer combo. Until one comes out, though, hit the bit torrents at bt.etree.org and make your own!

I did a quick surf of etree and found two downloads for the Portland 6/24/73 show, both of which appear to be the same source and length, and both of which are VERY partial (best guess is about 60% of the show). Both can be downloaded using a bit torrent program at http://bt.etree.org, and both are approximately 661 megabytes (but since neither of them is a recent post, they will both probably take a fairly long time to complete). If there IS a complete show out there, it probably just hasn't surfaced online yet (not all tapers joined the Internet bandwagon, and a LOT of tapes are lying in boxes, unseen for years). Now, if you needed the previous night's show from Vancouver, BC, instead, that one is fairly easy to get (in fact, I was listening to it in my car today).

Has anyone created a list of all the songs played throughout the years, and matched the songs to a specific concert, e.g., Althea -- gdyyyy-mm-dd.sbd.x.x.ogg, etc., by going through the concert archive? I started to do this, but I wonder if I'm re-inventing the wheel? There must be others who are trying to do it. Using the Annotated Grateful Dead web site's list of songs, I'm listening to my concert archive, and attempting to find the ultimate, super quality song. I'm starting with "Alabama Getaway," and ending with "You Don't Have to Ask." I hope one day I'll have the songs followed by the concert that's the best quality. Has anyone already started something like this?

I'd put out 4/1/91 Greensboro, NC as essential. Every song on both sets are just spot-on; the boys were on fire this night from the opening Jack Straw to the closing Baby Blue. Highlights include a beautiful rendition of Birdsong to close out the first set, a China/Rider as tightly played and energetic as they come, and a 30+ minute Dark Star>Drum>Space>Dark Star reprise that could go head to head with any played.

I agree with Vault Archivist David Lemeiux and the editors of the Taping Compendium in their belief that just about everything from Nov and Dec '73 is essential listening. The Nov Winterland shows (available as a box set here), the SoCal and Denver run (11/14, 11/17, 11/20-21), the Boston shows (11/30 and 12/2 available as a Dick's Pick), Duke (12/8), Atlanta (12/12) and Florida (12/18-19). But the whole year is worth hearing, the solid spring, the September "horns" shows, 10/19/73 (another Dick's Pick) ... Visit the vineyard and you can pick up some of these shows (Cream Filling vine has the 11/14-11/21 run). BUY the officially released ones.

2/13 is a great show with a 30 min Dark Star and a 30 min Turn On Your Love Light. The other show from September is a great show all around but has a pretty humorous Truckin' thats worth checking out. Hope yall enjoy
