    Saint Jerry's Picnic..or.. (even) Furthur in Eugene, Oregon !!!
    Jurassic Blueberries and the Citizens of Eugene, Oregon, (the grateful ducks) Thank, Bobby Weir and Phil Lesh, for the dark, volcanic, waves of musical hot magma that reigned down upon our city at the recent and magnificent "Furthur" shows. Cool breezes blowing the swirling colors of light and sweet smoke that disappeared between the leaves on the tall audience of trees and peaceful old and fresh Dead Heads dancing wildly, while Dark Star->Other One soared upwards into night and beyond. Furthur, beckoned the "Saint like" spirits of both Garcia and Kesey, back to our "riverside picnic" in Cosmic, "lavender bud" scented Eugene, Oregon. Come back again soon !!!!

I have a pair on the floor for both Dec. 8 and Dec. 9. I am interested in trading the floor for the balcony for the 8th (or the 9th if the 8th isn't happening). I probably prefer the floor to get closer personally, but my wife is more a 'hang back' and 'be able to sit' type (I know!). So, anyone? Or anyone know any other boards where this might be accomplished? Thanks! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * -enjoyin' the ride -There'll never be another Jerry

There were tapers on Friday night and I also know that soundboard recordings were sold at the venue. However, I have yet to find a single recording surface on any of the sites I frequent (Dime, LMA, or Etree). Has anyone run across this recording yet? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! What is the story with that CT show? I actually had somebody tell me on the 13th they saw someone get kicked out of the venue that night for taping! Couldn't believe my ears. Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

I sat directly behind a couple that was taping in Section 204. There was another taper off to our left as well. I wonder where the recordings are. "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose

It was a great trip to NJ! You guys rocked! I am so happy. I work so hard and to have the opportunity to party as hard as I work is the best! You guys worked hard yourselves letting us all have the best time! I loved every song, to be sure! The venue was delightful. I was watching through a window for a bit and it was so quaint and cozy below, right out of a story book. Thanks again to All, I had a blast! TO have gone Furthur was a wonderful thing to do. This is just my opinion. Since Jerry left us in 1995 many Guitar players have filled in on stage with "the Dead" "The Other Ones" "Phil and Friends" and "Ratdog" and they ALL did a great job too. But none of them have blended in and sounded so naturally like they belong there as John Kadlecik. He KNOWS the songs so well and Phil and Bob were so at ease. I hope FURTHUR stays together as long as they can Chuck

I'm sure I saw tapers. Whether or not they were kicked out I can't say. I sprung for the instant live discs but have not found an aud source anywhere yet. Tons of video on you tube though. The show was amazing and we had a blast, I'd have to say it's the best post-Jerry lineup yet (just my opinion of course). And Chuck, I totally agree about John....he's a keeper! It feels much more organic that the Dead tour last spring, not to say I didn'tove those shows as well, but this just feels like a BAND. And I can't say enough about Jeff on the keys. He's super talented and adds so much to the songs. Two months until the winter tour and I'm already starting the count down.

I just downloaded the show off etree. The taper claims its not a good recording and I have not listened to much yet but so far it sounds fine to me. "I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel. Can't win for tryin. Dust off those rusty strings just one more time. Gonna make em shine."

Definitely the show with the most energy so far. It sounded like they were actually toning it down it had so much intensity at the beginning. I think this is keeping with with the sound they are trying to achieve. It's like skeletons creeping through the attics of our minds. The sound quality of the one on archive was pretty good also. Thank you tapers! Keep'em coming!

"Took the Jerry ness to new heights? Light as a feather with it's perfect psychedelia? Guess you're a poet and don't even know it dude! Sorry, just couldn't let that pass. I think some might take issue with the "Jerry ness" comment. That still strikes a raw nerve around here. I mean, I really love John K. in this slot but the one thing he lacks, that every guitarist who fills this slot will lack, is the "jerry ness". Jerry put the black in licorice, which is to say he was the licoriciousness.

peace through musicSometimes when we're driving down the road, I'll say to my ol' man ,"What show is this?" (thinking that it's a Grateful Dead show that I can't seem to recognize!) It's Furthur, to my delight! All the incarnations of the band since Jerry left this physical stage have been great and gratefully enjoyed, but this Furthur one is mind blowing and extremely exciting to hear. Reason being that those who were too young or didn't have the opportunity to see live Grateful Dead can experience the recreated sound of those magical notes. John has dedicated his playing to playing the shows verbatim and it has paid off! Thank you, this is a time of returning !

for heads like AmanaM and MaryS seems to be their insistence on a line from The Eleven, "Now is the time of returning." Just when did they ever go away? The only returning I see is Bob & Phil playing together and willing to let somebody get out in front of them on the jams (thank god). I hate to be one to tell you this but John K. is too old to be the reincarnation of Jerry. So this is NOT Jerry returning. John K. is a guy who has spent most of his life aping Jerry's voice and guitar and Phil just happened to shine the spotlight on him. My only point here is that while this makes it an enjoyable experience worth paying for, for people who like the music Hunter wrote for The Grateful Dead, there will be no returning. Things change and move on Furthur and for those of us who truly enjoyed the very essence of the Grateful Dead experience ANY lineup post Jerry will not be comparable. It's like comparing Starbucks to the store brand coffee. It's still coffee, but It just doesn't pack the same punch. I think this "Now is the time of returning." bullshit is a line laid down by some very slick promotional people and it is sad to see some older heads falling for it. I can see why the younger heads who never heard Jerry play are falling for it though. I think if you put it in perspective and take it with a grain of salt "It's all good." (I hate that cliche but it is way appropriate here). MaryS, if you have been to 660 shows you damn well should be able to tell the difference between Furthur & Good Old Grateful Dead. Then again, maybe the old synapses aren't firing on all cylinders anymore.

bullshit line laid down by some slick promo people, older heads falling for it = sour grapes, didn't get a ticket?where did they go anyway? = 03 to 09 no dead shows not Jerry returning = obviously any post Jerry lineup will not be comparable = old head (not a bad thing) John K spent most of his life aping Jerry's voice and guitar = wish i had done that Phil just happened to shine the light on him = who knew Jerry's sound best? damn well should be able to tell the difference between furthur and GOD (good old dead) Sometimes, in the dark, misfiring synapses make me see colors :) I admit that in the past there have been bad choices for Jerry's replacement, going away from what made them unique, and I have not heard a single note from this furthur band, but I will go to the show, keeping an open mind, and hoping that, even if for just a moment, I get that feeling that Jerry's band gave us all, I will be very happy. Hoping you all find tickets and go to the shows and make up your own minds. Peace, Love, Dead in the New Year to all.

no sour grapes here, wasn't shut out. saw the lists for the christmas shows and am looking forward to hearing them. the wallingford show made me smile at moments as did a few spots in the oakland shows. i'm on board with furthur, no doubt... i'm happy there is no real crush for tix. they were there for the faithful if you tried in the first few days to get them. let's hope it stays that way - the crush was ridiculous after the early 80s. all I am saying is there ain't no going back. enjoy what is for what it is... s'all see ya long the winter trail ((<+>)); - {}

Then what you are giving him credit for lamagonzo. I never could get into DSO and I was very skeptical to say the least. But after what I witnessed in San Fran I'd say they have put together quite a line up. I know Jerry was in that building those 2 nights because I haven't had THAT feeling since oh I'd say 1991 at least. So I guess I am one of those folks who "fell for it". That being said, I will agree that you should be able to tell the difference between Furthur and GOGD :-) Anyways I just get this feeling that a lot of people think the band should have just folded up the tent when Jerry died. Well I am really glad they didn't and I appreciate Bob and Phil experimenting to keep the magic alive. Even if the magic isn't what it was 40, 30 or even 20 years ago. At this point I'll take any magic I can get!! "I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel. Can't win for tryin. Dust off those rusty strings just one more time. Gonna make em shine."

After all the crap associated with the Dead presale last year (it's last year already?), I'm happy to report that I've received a "tickets in the mail" e-mail, along with a tracking number! Last time out, there was that interminable and inexcusable smash-up during the actual presale event, and then the dead silence and interminable and inexcusable wait for tix we'd ordered months earlier. Much, much better....
