Week of August 26-September 1, 2019
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll cover a five year span in the Grateful Dead’s recorded legacy, 1973-1978.
Our first selection this week is from 5/20/73 at UCSB Stadium in Santa Barbara, CA, the second of the three big weekend shows the Dead played in May 1973 (5/13 in Des Moines, and 5/26 in San Francisco). From the UCSB show, we have the big jam sequence of Truckin'> Nobody's Fault But Mine Jam > Jam > The Other One > Eyes Of The World > Stella Blue.
Next is the end of the first set from 5/18/77 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, the first night of a two night run at this beautiful theatre, where we have New Minglewood Blues ; It Must Have Been The Roses; Lazy Lightnin'> Supplication; High Time; The Music Never Stopped.
Lastly this week is the entire first set from the final show of the Spring Tour of 1978, from 5/17/78 at the Uptown in Chicago, IL, where we have Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo > Franklin's Tower ; Me And My Uncle > Big River; It Must Have Been The Roses; Looks Like Rain ; Tennessee Jed ; Funiculi Funicula ; Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication.
Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault.
just fyi - The first link seems wrong. Instead of Truckin etc. it goes to Promised Land and other stuff.
That was an amazing show...I was there and heard the tapes on Sirius xm last summer...unfortunately these tunes, excellent as they are, are not from that show and are mislabeled on the link...please get this or anything from the UCSB show up on the Tapers Section...I can't wait...
Patience is rewarded, however, as it eventually comes around after an opening set from where??????
just set 2 according to Deadbase
Has a nice ring to it...
By the way, looks like someone may have been busy this week... :-)
-edit- Alas, the sameness of the set lists probably precludes the trio from box set treatment.
