Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1978, 1979, and 1991, three distinct periods in Grateful Dead history as defined by three different keyboards players.
From 5/7/78 in Troy, NY, toward the end of Keith and Donna’s time with the Grateful Dead, we have the end of the show, featuring Iko Iko > The Other One > Black Peter > Around And Around, US Blues.
From exactly one year later, on 5/7/79 in Easton, PA, we have the end of the second set, featuring the tail end of Not Fade Away> Black Peter> Around And Around. This was from Brent’s first tour with the Dead, and if you listen closely, you can hear a bit from a third guitarist, John Cipollina.
Lastly this week, from 5/5/91 at Cal Expo, featuring Vince on keyboards, we have the start of the second set, featuring Eyes Of The World >Man Smart (Woman Smarter) ; Ship Of Fools ; Truckin' >Terrapin Station.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
