    RE: NYE '69

CC, your post invites a bit of confusion by suggesting that you saw both the Dead and TSOC on the same NYE bill at Winterland in '69; though 50 years is an understandably long time. It's hard to imagine, but the Dead were not playing on a West Coast home field that December 31st, and were rather in the midst of an odd eastbound triptik that took them to Dallas on 12/26, Hollywood (FL) on 12/28, and the Boston Tea Party on 12/29-30, while closing out at the Fillmore East on 1/2-3/70.

Indeed, the '69 NYE playbill on the poster you linked does not name the Dead. So TSOC and the GoGD were on opposite coasts at the decade's close. In any event, here's a link to a CM SBD for the Dead's '69 NYE show:
    https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1969/12/31?source=87994

Incidentally, I couldn't find a poster for Boston NYE, but here's one from the night before (it would appear the promo dept. missed the spirit of the "grateful" dead; you'd think an impossibly early incarnation of Maiden was playing that night!):
    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YQBsfGwVEeo/TUSkqEWWy3I/AAAAAAAARQs/qRvbGdWK_…

However, you are correct that the Dead played NYE '70 at Winterland, but, consistent with the playbill cited in Deadbase50, the following promo poster does not show TSOC on the same stage, but rather NRPS, "assorted friends" (apparently Hot Tuna), and Stoneground (note also, "lights by Little Princess 109").
    https://img0.etsystatic.com/030/0/8448089/il_570xN.542921874_q4nc.jpg

Checking Deadbase, here's a link to what seems the complete NYE '70 show; however, it appears to be mix of AUD and FM broadcast that provides poor sound quality through Cumberland (even so, the Truckin' opener is well worth a listen), but thankfully improves in time for the set's highlights at Cryptical and China>Rider through close at UJB.

Regardless of which show you attended, either would've been a great way to kick off your own personal attendance record! Got a story?/K

I can not find the 1st GD show I attended anywhere in GD archives. No GD archive lists the same bands that I saw that night, as confirmed by the Sons archive which has the poster from that night:

<<Wednesday, December 31, 1969: '1969 New Years Eve 1970', Winterland 2000 Post Street at Steiner Street, San Francisco, California
The band was billed only as 'The Sons' on the poster printed for this show. Also on the bill: Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna. Lights by Brotherhood of Light. This show, from 8:00pm to 8:00am, was promoted by Bill Graham Presents In San Francisco.>>

    limited releases logic explained

Could you please explain the logic of "limited releases" as it applies to an "alternative" business model, such as the grateful dead" The "limited release" model is a concept taken from the good old music biznezz, in order to promote sales, keep prices high, and maintain collector value of limited products.
I "missed" the window for daves pick's 30, a rare release from the year 1970, the first show that I recorded 1/3/70. I was disappointed, but managed to get one on a record/cd selling site. I paid double, but I still saved $$$, as I do not want to purchase a "subscription" to the daves picks yearly releases, as I am primarily interested in obtaining music from the 1966-1970 period, and not many releases are from these years. I guess I could always buy a subscription, and then sell off the unwanted items on another site for a profit, which is what this concept does, encourages a "black market". I do not consider this to be "progressive" in the least. I would rather purchase through GDCORP, as I have in the past, but if GDCORP wants to encourage this type of atmosphere, I am forced to participate in order to get what I want, and I am grateful to the sellers who have made it possible to get what I want. But it sure seems contrary to what Jerry's idea of business was.

Hey there! I work for a Farm Craft Brewery in Virginia and we recently got accepted to have taps at the Lockn Music Festival this year. I have created a piece of art that combines our logo and labeling with a Stealie and would love to get it made into shirts for our team and possibly release a small barrel batch of bear grateful dead themed. We of course need right to use the Stealie and want to do things right! Could you please point us in the right direction of making this happen?!

I've been trying to figure this out for some time now and was wondering if anyone could help. In Hunter Seamons matrix soundboard recording for the Barton Hall Show - at the 7:07 mark, someone in the audience says something and it's hard to decipher what was said. Any thoughts, after giving a listen, would be greatly appreciated. It's on the Archive Site with a date of Jan 11, 2011. It almost sounds like "got it nice' but not sure.

    Hi Marye!
I hope you are well. Could you please point me in the right direction with regards to GDM and/or licensing of art work? I am particularly curious about the Summer 1995 Eyes of the World print by Richard Biffle.
Thank you so much for all the things you do!

I apologize if this is not the correct forum but I am really disappointed in the customer service. I ordered two sets of Spring 1990 (one set as a gift for my best friend) and have nine pages of notes from phone calls and emails. Every time I contact the customer service I get a different answer! This has been going on for more than one month. I am ready to waive the white flag and give up. Do you have any suggestions? thank you Michael Johnston

Can anyone help me find any film footage taken at the Furthur Festival in Toronto July 9, 1997. This show was moderated by Arlo Guthrie. In particular, there was a film booth at the festival in which people could record themselves and their impressions of the show. Any suggestions are most welcome. Kind regards

What's going on with the store and the Road Trips links? None of the ones that say Add to Cart or Buy Now go anywhere when you click. Has the store not been completely switched over yet? I notice that a lot of things are missing... Just curious as I was looking to round off my RT set. Thanks!

Curious to know if there's going to be a bit more of the Road Trips sets as well. Not sure if they're actually all sold out or if it's a 'not completely restocked store' issue.

Hello,I'm working on a new live music project called, "Deadhead Download". Is the word "Deadhead" trademarked by you guys? If so, how much do I have to pay you to use the term at a concert where I'll get paid 20 bucks and have 50 bucks of expenses? Also... How much do I have to pay to use/license the "Steal your face" logo? I am talking about commercial use, but probably will be making less than 50 bucks over the lifetime of the project...

Anyone know when the fully stocked store is going to be up and running. Christmas is approaching. I'd love to get some stuff before the Holidays, and have those who buy for me be able to get it as well. The JGAB dual release with the booklet comes to mind, the 7 Walkers stuff, etc. Additionally, do we know anything about the scope of the new store? I'm certainly hoping more than is there now. But more Dicks? More Jerry? Saw a post that said mid-October was the goal, was/is that still accurate?

Hi, I have the 3 releases of Dave's Picks. They have not been indexed properly so you cannot see track title and other info when playing in cd players. I have tested in an older Sony player and also on my Oppo 95 and both are blank. Computer playback may be displaying the info but thats not how I play cd's. Will the new releases finally have proper indexing? thank you

but I cannot think of a single CD I own that displays title (as contrasted to track) information when playing on a CD player, so I'm not sure any such standard exists.

Really, many of mine have that.. it displays on my tv. For example I just put in Frank Zappa Hot Rats. it displays: Disc Artist: Frank Zappa Disc Title: Hot Rats Track Title: Peaches En Regalia Track Type: CDDA Channel Type: Stereo 44.1k 16b this is very common but yes not all discs have it but since these are new releases I would think it would have been done since it is simple to do.

I'd really appreciate some info on the store. I'd really like to support the site and all, but if there is no update soon, I'm reluctantly going to have to go to Amazon or some such to see if I can locate some stuff I'd like to get that was readily available on the old site but now is not. Have to buy it, get it shipped, and then ship it out. Need a month's leeway at least. Even if the response is:" I have no idea when the new store will be up and fully running." Or even: "What you see is what you get with the new store. These titles are the extent of it." I could just go head with a clear conscience. Peace, Jason.

Im trying to shop the store and all I get on there is the Almanac. Also it looks like some of the RT are gone? Will they be replaced? I remember getting an email for some a couple months back saying less teh 500 left and I bought those. Why wasnt an email sent out about the other ones and low quantities. Im not trying to gripe but they are $100 on Amazon

Really? If true, what a shame. It seems like just a few months ago the dead.net store had an awesome, shortly announced one-day sale going on where you got free shipping on top of a 20% discount and they were all available. Road Trips, in my opinion, had some great selections over a wide period and great packaging with the least amount of miscues in all aspects associated with it. Maybe that is why some of them sold out. $100 on Amazon seems more than a little stiff. Hope everybody gets what they want for Christmas!!!

I downloaded Google Chrome and still can not download the track. Why does it seem that everything associated with Dead.net is a test of endurance? Here's to hoping that I can eventually get these tracks from someone who is a computer whiz and able to deal with the intricacies of navigating the infinite possibilities of programs to download the music. I can't post on the downloads page because I don't have a Twitter or Facebook account and don't want one. Who is designing the Dead.net site? A group of sadistic computer nerds? Did anyone there ever hear the expression "user friendly"?

hmm... maybe you're right, but that's not what the rules say. nothin' in there about being first. "Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered for our Grand Prize - a copy of the SOLD OUT Spring 1990 box set."

...and all that time I thought I was first 2 years ago when I won. That's great then, better chances for everyone. If I can remember right, I had to contact them to find out what to do after my name was announced as the winner. Par for the course here at Dead.net...hahaha. The prize was the 1969 Big Rock Pow Wow Road Trips.

How tech inclined are you? Do you know your way around a computer? How many computers do you have? Do you have a buddy whose computer you can try? I was having trouble at first until I downloaded Firefox. About the third day they fixed the problem so IE works now. Make sure everything's updated. I have to admit, this website works better in Firefox.

So, I'm trying to buy my Dave's Picks 2012 Subscription, and on the site, when it lists your cart, it says there is Dave's Picks free shipping, and -$11.95 is subtracted from your order total. But then, when you actually go to checkout, your $11.95 reappears on your bill. Watch it folks, it looks like free shipping, but it isn't. EDIT: I went back a second time, and now it is working properly and giving the discount. Never mind.
