This came to mind because I'm cleaning out closets and coming across boxes and boxes of tapes and slides... Back when the boys started playing, cassettes were a big breakthrough. For years, mailing them around the country was a huge part of the scene. Now you can often download a show right after it's been played, or watch it in real time from thousands of miles away. Things we could only dream of a couple of decades ago are now routine--not just real-time setlists, real-time video for all to see. In the olden days you had to send your film to the lab and wait with bated breath to see if that great shot turned out the way you hoped; now you can not only tell then and there, but you can send it to the world. With special effects. What are you recording/listening/entrusting images to these days? Do you miss the old-school stuff? Are there devices you can't do without?

Hey all. My name is Rick. First show, Col. Ohio '72. Last show, still working on it. First signed up w dead net back in 2000 or so...Then went offline with all electronics. Still don't own a cell phone. Now working off this lap top. Got a few questions for anyone kind enough to help this dinosaur along the way. First, 'back in the day' there was a forum re '70's shows, tape/CD trading, Miracle tape giveaways, trees etc... Does that 'room' still exist? Where would I find it? Second, I'd like to find a gd flag, like the one hung atop the great pyramid in '78? Did the gd store ever sell one? Or another site where I could order one? Third, since I missed out on the 'new' Dave's Pick's shows I'm kinda dying to trade for the Dave's #16, 3/28/73 Springfield, Ma. Dave's #14, 3/26/72, NY. Dave's #27, 9/2/83, Boise, Id. Finally, Road Trips, Vol. 3,#2 11/15/71 Austin,Tx. Can't find what the other Dave's Picks were, but does anyone have any favorites from the '72-'74 period? They'd like to pass on, or trade for? Have hundreds and hundreds of first gen tapes, hundreds and hundreds CD's obtained from trades, trees, or Dick Picks offerings...anyone need a '69 Boston Ark CD? Anyhow, if anyone could email at ricomon1026@gmail.com I'd appreciates it! As Billy K. once said, "they don't have a note value, for the endless whole note"...pretty much says it all...to see infinity in a grain of sand, keep on truckin all!

Hey all. Question: Is there a reason to keep bootleg CD's anymore? I've got a ton of them from when vines were the thing. Now, with streaming, it's probably been 3 years since I've listened to a CD. It seems wrong to just throw them away, but not sure what else to do with them. They are in boxes in the attic at the moment. My store bought disks I'd keep, but all those AUD shows... I'm struggling to find a reason to store them. So, with the ease of streaming, does anyone listen to CD's anymore? Is there a reason to keep them? Thanks for any and all input! Peace, -Dave

hi, i have 5-6 boxes of my friend's collection, mostly dead, max creek, and other bands, his setup was Nakamichi, so the tapes are good. I would love to have someone take them off my hands :) IN the New England area would help, to avoid expensive shipping costs.

thanks, Steve :)

Hey man. I saw your post from like 9 years ago about tapes but didn't know if any were still available? Probably a long shot but thought I'd check.

Gratefully yours,
Will

I have quite a collection of live tapes. Dead, Garcia, Weir in many incarnations
Most are original masters that were made by my group, from early 70's til the end (Jerry's passing).
Cassettes and DATS.
I do not have the time to transfer them to digital, and would love to give them to someone willing to do this, and give me high quality digital copies. You can keep the originals. Shipping, etc, to be on your dime.

Please do not reply if the above requirements cannot be met.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

Too young for vinyl, too old for Spotify - good ol' cassette tapes have always been my fave music media! CDs were such a flawed technology (left outta the case for 30 seconds‽ Hope you like — like — like — like to skip!). Not so with a tape (just don't leave 'em on your dash in August)! Streaming services are grand, but rely on "internet privilege" (access). You can keep your iPod shuffles, and your subscription services - I'm a sucker for my walkman and a bootleg.
My dad had a brown leather briefcase adorned with a simple Stealie, where he kept his treasures from the Tapers' Section. As I grew in age & taste I relied on those cassettes.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to sing y'all 100 verses in ragtime...

TL;DR—
I would love to gather *any* tapes y'all might be looking to spill!

I'm located in Southern WV! May or may not be able to chip into shipping, but am always down to *happily, readily, generously* trade some art (mostly watercolor paintings) handmade by yours truly!

Hey all, as a few others have chimed in here, I would love to slowly acquire some tapes recorded over the years. I like listening in all different media at different times, depending on how I’m feeling. So I’d love to build a little tape collection. Let me know if you’re looking to offload some of your collection as you digitize, or if you’re up for some old-school blanks and postage dubbing. Thanks!

Hey now! I'm putting together a basement stereo rig for my son and have come into a nice old tapedeck. I was too young to see Jerry back in the day, but I'd love to get my hands on some tapes to start a collection. Does anyone have any they're looking to offload? NFA <3

7.5" reels. High generation audience and soundboards from early days through 1988. 90's VHS hi fi. You pay shipping. Let's discuss details.

I saw your comment. I am not the person whose add you were referring to.
I do however, have maaany Dead cassettes.
Are you still interested in them? Mike S.

Hey now! I too am interested in obtaining a tape or two. Been listening to the Dead for decades via albums, CD’s, streams, archives, etc and only caught my first live performance when I saw Bob Weir & Wolf Bros last year ☺️. I continue to climb my way down the rabbit hole any chance I get, including just about any video or reading material I can get my hands on. I recently finished reading “Live Dead: The Grateful Dead, Live Recordings, and the Ideology of Liveness” and become even more fascinated by the phenomenon of tape trading. Really makes me wish I’d been on the bus! Anyways, would love to get my hands & ears on some of those relics if any of y’all are able to administer to a brother.. ☺️
