The basic idea is that someone starts (seeds) a vine, made up of one or multiple shows, and sends it via mail to the first person who signs up. That person makes a copy for themselves and sends the ORIGINAL media on to the next person on the list. As more people sign up, it continues to grow and grow - hence the name "vine".

20 Years So Far. Early Summer Tour Part 1: “The Greeks”. Well here goes folks. I’ve been piecing this one together, and with the help of two great connoisseurs and sharing kind souls, this one is ready to roll. The first kind soul, is a great friend of mine from Seattle named ….well we’ll call him MIKE. The other is my personal “Captain Sully” of the Dead.net vineyard community ltapilot. Great thanks to both for making this goal of mine to get quality recordings this entire run possible. This swing is when I got on the bus, and I feel very blessed to have seen some of these shows. The band seemed fired up every night. Such great hot summer nights under pavilions and stars. This was really the last summer tour which played a lot of these smallish outdoor venues. After 1985 we bid farewell to shows at Merriweather Post and the Blossom Music Center. We were told they would never be able to play S.P.A.C. again after the 2nd level was swaying about as if a 7.0 earthquake struck and the damn deadheads would not stop sitting on the edge of the balcony (Phil-“50,000 people are waiting on you man”). We were able to see S.P.A.C. again in 88’. We got another year out of Riverbend and a couple more out of Alpine Valley and the Greek. Anyway, I will vine the entire run from June 14th at the Greek Theatre until the Pittsburgh Civic Arena on July 2nd. The recordings will be a pleasant mix of soundboards and phenomenal audience recordings done by regulars in the taper community in the 80’s, the Oade brothers. The vine will be split into 3 so I can offer audio cd’s to the flacless. “20 Years So Far”…….What a ride! Enjoy! Folks, in the course of much-needed spring cleaning I ran across a disc David Gans made me years ago of a Grateful Dead Hour that included a lot of excerpts from my Jerry interview in 1987. I'm listening to it now... Anyway, I checked with David and it is okay with him if I vine this, so I offer it up. While I hate listening to myself doing interviews anyway, this particular one certainly highlights the difference between doing interviews for print (which this was, originally) and broadcast. Let's just say if you INTEND to do an audio interview, learn from my lame example and do not say "uh-huh" at 30-second intervals. I remember well that this gave David fits at the time, and lord knows I can see why. Argh! Nonetheless, I offer it up in all humility. Since I am fairly clueless about this stuff and am just putting the files into iTunes, I am quite willing to send the original to the first person on the vine, provided they copy it, vine the copy, and send the original back to me. I think this will result in everyone getting better quality. Track Listing (talk between the tracks): 1. Billboard :38 2. Part 1 27:24 Jerry Garcia Band, Cats Under the Stars Cats Under the Stars Gomorrah Grateful Dead 10/18/78 Winterland Terrapin Grateful Dead, What a Long Strange Trip It's Been Dark Star 3. Klanz: I already vined the 3/19 show, but mine was an aud recording. I suppose people can sign up for both or we can simply end the "ABB with Clapton Vine" because this vine has alot more to offer. I am especially looking forward to the Stanley Clarke stuff. "One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused, listen to the music play"

If you guys could hold off on new vines for a few days I'd really appreciate it. I'm on my way to a conference where the Internet connection may be a little dicey, so if we could avoid this particular bottleneck that would be great. Thanks!

I am also going to include two concerts of The Keith and Donna Band that I have. They are audience recordings(not the greatest). I didnt think there would be enough people interested in them to justify their own vine. This will be a five audio cd vine, one dvd w/flac files for those who use them. Grateful Dead00-00-1987 "Backstage 1987" Notes: -This movie presents a wonderful documentary of the band's backstage antics, and includes sound checks, show snippets, and lots of backstage bantering. -This 1 disc movie is comprised of 2 vcd-compliant mpeg-1 files. -There was no text file or information included with the original mpegs. -I have deduced that this movie contains footage from the following tours:Summer 1987, Fall 1987, Spring 1988, Summer 1988, Fall 1988 -No director/producer credits provided, by I suspect Justin Kreutzman is the culprit. Peace. mattman. August 2003. "My notes on this.. This is an incredible video ! I have wached it 4 times since i`ve had it (only a few day`s) I feel closer to The GD then I have ever felt before . Not only backstage banter but this also has video of all the guy`s scuba diving ,parking lot scenes, veiws from Bill Grahms helecoptor and so much more !! Im my opinion this is a must have for ALL Dead heads !! It is on one dvd , an absoloutly fabulous job by Justin !! ( if he is the one who filmed it , wich I`m pretty sure he did ) I`m sure you all will enjoy this .. And thank`s go out to mattmam who originally seeded this wonderfull part of history !! Peace and sunshine to all !! " Stu ..

Perhaps the REAL Central Scrutinizer busted him loading or unloading outside The White Zone. Hope his parents' credit rating isn't affected! Heh heh.

This is like my favorite band, playing my other favorite bands songs : ) The set list will be kind of chopped up because of the long venue names. These are great recordings though, I think all are sound boards. I'm not sure who did the original compilation-but thanks! I'm sure it took a lot of time and knowledge of shows. In 92 me and two friends each ate five hits of the local paper. Got lost going from Sacramento to Mountian Veiw. We ended up in the desert getting chased by thunderbirds and tumble weeds. It took three weeks and two sheets to make it back on tour.

I was responding to a couple of vines the other day and saw a post from him on April 11, so it wasn't too long ago... "When the smoke has cleared she said, that's what she said to me. You're gonna want a bed to lay your head and a little sympathy"

Has anyone even gotten a vine from him lately? Maybe he just lost his internet or something. We were going to exchange numbers before the chicago show, wish that we would have done it earlier. "You know the one thing we need is a left handed monkey wrench....."

A couple of weeks ago, right around the last time we heard from him. Didn't someone mention a few days ago that he was going out of town? "When the smoke has cleared she said, that's what she said to me. You're gonna want a bed to lay your head and a little sympathy"

I PM'd him a week or so ago. He is OK. He told me he is really busy and hasn't been able to get online. Let's all hope that is all there is to it. Psyched for Nassau tonight and MSG tomorrow! "One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused, listen to the music play"

Here are the 5 pre-spring tour 1977 shows: 2/26, 2/27, 3/18, 3/19 and 3/20. All will be circulated in WAV format. All but 2/27 (A- AUD) are A SBDs. Three of the shows, 2/27, 3/18 and 3/20 will also be circulated in FLAC/SHN on a DVD. 2/26 has the premiere performance of Terrapin Station, opening the show no less, and fine versions of Playing, Music and Help > Slip > Franklin's. 2/27 features a great 1/2 Step, Scarlet, Stephen and Dew. 3/18 has a hot Sugaree and the rare Alhambra. Highlights for 3/19 include TLEO, Playing, Eyes and Franklin's. 3/20 contains another great Stephen. And if you are an Estimated fan, you get FIVE for the price of one. Please wait for Marye to give this vine it's own plot, and enjoy
