As you're likely now aware, we'll be reissuing some of the Dave's Picks releases on vinyl, re-mastered from the original analog tapes by Jeffrey Norman. We won't be releasing them all, but we'll be curating some of our and your favourites on an occasional basis. Last year, Vol. 1 from 5/25/77 came out on vinyl, and the second release will be Vol. 23, the magnificent show from 1/22/78 in Eugene, OR. This show is dynamite from start to finish, with a few upper-tier Grateful Dead moments from the 1977-1978 period. The unique "Close Encounters" theme and "St. Stephen" are the centrepieces of what is considered one of 1978's best second sets. We have more great Dave's Picks planned for vinyl release, so stay tuned, but for now we hope you'll dig the long-sold-out-on-CD Vol. 23. - David Lemieux

Close encounters in Eugene, Oregon! We are not alone in saying this one could be considered top-of-line Grateful Dead from 1978. Yes, as the tales have been told, 1/22/78 conjured up vibes of the Be-in, Altamont, Yippies, Psychedelia, Woodstock, Free Speech, Acid Trips, heaven for one lucky concert-goer, and of course, aliens. If you wanna know what we're on about, there's no better way to experience the show than with this lovingly-restored version from legendary sound engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson's recordings. Witness sets packed with bright and vibrant gems like a surprisingly heavy "Row Jimmy," a freshly tender "Ship Of Fools," and a transcendental "The Other One." And if you have levitated too far, Jerry's "Close Encounters" solo (ironic, we know) will reel you back in and set you right up for the powerful crescendo of "St. Stephen" and the band's shake-it-all-about boogie-down finale.

The international shipping for two boxes in one order is $34.02 moe expensive than buying them individually (except you can't).

I am also concerned that the cost of importing 2 sets will be higher proportionally than one.

I have submitted a request to ask for the cancellation of one box. 🤞

Thanks very much for that. I can't decide about this. I'll give it some thought, an drop you a line tomorrow, if that's alright. In the mean time, if anyone else contacts you and says they are interested, then don't let me stand in the way.
It's a pity they can't release these albums on Amazon UK - just looking this morning, both 3/1/69 and the St Louis 1971 show are there on vinyl at quite good prices comparably. In fact, 3/1/69 is so reasonable, I'm tempted to buy it again!

    UK cost

    Hi there fella!

If my mental ‘rithmatic is right, £135.80 give or take a tuppence or two… Plus whatever the import duty and handling charge the wonderful striking Royal Mail add. One benefit is that it’ll be only one handling fee obviously.

I think you can safely say around £155 all in, but I’m not 100% sure on duty rates right now.

If you want it, I’ll guarantee you won’t pay a Penny more than what you’d pay to order it yourself, plus you’d save a tenner on handling, and I’ll cover the last leg from me to you. Entirely up you and no need to rush a decision or take me up on it chap. Would be my pleasure though.

Drop me a line outside of the comments section if you want to have a catch up or sound off further…

Doingtheneedful - I was just wondering how much it costs, including the postage etc to import a copy to the UK?

Ordered mine yesterday when it went live. Bought just one, didn't use PayPal to complete just typed in info. Ever since they've made changes to the site, I can't chnage my profile pick or sign in to my account, but I can still sign in as me to post. Other times PayPal doesn't work as mentioned. Lotsa loose belts and toothless gears around these parts lately.

    Happy Will is correct.

Added a second set, order went through like an express train. Apparently.

If anyone in the UK wants a set, please message me. This has been a bit of a mess quite frankly. I’m no sure I trust the process has worked despite confirmations. I used the well known electronic payment provider option but wasn’t prompted for multi factor authentication etc. We’ll see. If no takers, I’ll have to try a figure out how to cancel one set, which will be fun indeed!

Totally unable to complete preorder without getting a “busy or call your card provider” message, or “value can’t be 0” type error using PayPal

Any ideas folks? Managed to successfully navigate the changes for this years’ DP subs, so not sure what’s different about this one….

I think you have to buy two copies

I was trying to make an order, and then thought I would add a second box to my cart. The order then went through super quick. Made me think of an earlier thread i saw questioning what they thought Rhino's selling model was. Now I will have to cancel one of the sets.

Took me awhile to find how to comment - I've had similar quality issues with DP Vol. 23 - every disc sounds like someone walked on it. Side 2 Peggy-O has a blemish that sounds like it would take the diamond off the cantilever.
Quality inspection!
Will take a good look at ordering any additional vinyl. You spend this kind of $$, you should expect a good product. Quite a difference to the 1977-05-07 Boston RSD release.

Yeah, these discs are screwed, especially sides 2 and 3 for me. When I asked for a refund all I got was an undeliverable message, BOOOOOO! Got me thinking about future vinyl purchases for sure, this one just.doesn't.cut.it. PM to Marye, our resident hero...
