30 Days of Dead

Who needs a miracle everyday? We sure do and we bet you could use one too!

Consider this our gift to you for being so darn loyal... Each day in November we will be giving away a high-quality 320Kbps MP3 download. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win a 2015 Grateful Dead calendar.

Most of you know the drill by now, but for those, that don't, here's the deal:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand all November long and win a prize while you're at it.

Today's Song

Uncle John's Band
Hint: A quite-new song, which would become one of the Dead's most popular songs of all time.

Spinal Tap?

Thank you. This is great version. Gotta check out whole show. At about 30 secs someone (I think Phil) hits a rather sour harmony note. Every time I hear it I'm reminded of Spinal Tap when they are trying to harmonize Heartbreak Hotel at Elvis' grave :). "It sounds like barbershop raga" lol.

first time i ever heard an ujb at that tempo with such vocal ranges...a little short on jamming... but i really want to find this show to hear the rest of it. quite new is right but the ujb list covers 2 full columns before even 1974 so i think i have to move off the couch sit on floor get deadbase, compendium ,almanac, archive, relisten, and whatever hints materialize in the comments and make a day of it.
6 days left for a pig or some real rare songs...viola lee...hint

A great, mellow way to start the day. Thanks, Dave.

Such a slow pace

I like how the 30 Days concept has me delving into shows I wouldn't normally tee up. This is one. Thank you!

still groovin on yesterday's show

had to cram in a search before 12 and came up with a match post haste. only to return a few hours later for this tasty treat. interesting choice, ladies choice? bears choice? so many versions out there, and definitely some sweet ones from this time period. maybe getting lucky or maybe getting good after the past 23 days but found it pretty quick. and if you start getting tired sifting through troves of UJB's why don't you just sit down and relax, maybe take five minutes.
can't believe there are only 6 more to go. this month flew by.

Happy Birthday Bruce Hornsby

Yesterday's show was a fun listen.

By the way of nothing, I just noticed yesterday was Bruce Hornsby's birthday.

not lost in the ozone

What a nice relaxing take on a great song... you'd never believe it was recorded au bord du monde occidental...
