30 Days of Dead

If you've been part of the Dead.net community for the past few years, then you know we're on a mission to make a miracle every day in the month of November. This year is no different.

As a token of our appreciation for making 2017 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you a chance daily to win a limited-edition 7" single, the 1st release from our 2017 series.

Here's how it works:

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand all November long.

Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered for our Grand Prize - a copy of our SOLD OUT MAY 1977: GET SHOWN THE LIGHT boxed set.

Get started here.

Today's Song

"Scarlet Begonias">"Fire On The Mountain"
Hint: A double dose of Jerry-sung songs, common from 1977-1995.

Yesterday's answer...

Paris, France, Palais des Sports
9/21/1974
Although Seastones (Phil and Ned Lagin's electronic interlude played between the first and second sets at Grateful Dead shows between June and October 1974) was usually a stand-along set, occasionally the rest of the band would join in and they would segue into Grateful Dead music, like here.

Scarlet/Fire Combo Meal!!

Congrats to Eyes43 for the big win with France. There should be fast food joints with a Scarlet/Fire combo meal. If you can't do spicy, there's the China/Rider plate. LOL. I'm loving Dave's choice for today. One of the longest versions I've heard. The Willard dedication is funny as hell too. Only Bob.

Good memories

My wife was from this town, spent many Thanksgivings there; even saw the Dead there before we had ever met. And we've visited this show here before. I wonder if it's due for commercial release. It's from a slightly underrepresented year.

Yesterday I took a break! Today an early vocal flub is key

Well I tried to listen yesterday but just couldn’t get into hours of seastones so I am 16/17. Gotta guess today’s! Jerry vocal flub and the keys will help narrow it down.... so off to archive

I think everyone should be

I think everyone should be entered to win just for listening to Seastones. Musical wankery at its finest.

Hotter than hell in the summertime...

Listen to the rest of the show, too - I recommend the Wagner/Miller source for the you-are-there experience - and hoist a few Cream Ales to top it all off ;)

Wow, another tasty half hour

Wow, another tasty half hour medley! Respectfully, I don't give a good rodent's hindquarters if a word or two is dropped here or there or they hit a few clunkers, I ALWAYS love Scarlet-Fire. Keep the peace, folks! and thanks again, Dave & Co.!

Edit: This Fire is really really good! Really.

i got a boatload

based on my daily pre research in deadbase, matching a time frame, listening to it, and getting confused with cream ale, i figure about 100 or more to listen to.
i could do worse on a saturday

LOL

I initially read your post as "between 79 & 80". I was gonna say damn you've got it narrowed down pretty good there! Brent's young whipper-snapper voice on this version sure did get some road gravel in it over the years, didn't it?
