It was difficult for me to listen to this recording. You can very much tell that Jerry is having a tough time. Sure, his forgetting the words leads to an extended Bertha jam. But what a price to pay so we could get high together. So I felt super sad listening to this as it feels like Jerry is struggling and suffering through it. And he suffered a lot. Just so the bus could keep going. No wonder I couldn't bare going to shows in the later years. It was too painful for me.

Finding myself guided to study indigenous wisdom ways in this life, I had the thought earlier, "If the Medicine Man gets sick, the whole tribe is in trouble." That is how I perceive the whole darkness that descended onto the scene towards the end. It adds to the grief of it all that so many people felt it - including those closest to Jerry - but the tribe wasn't able to save its own medicine man. I am forever grateful that this medicine music lives on. And am just plain out sad today that we lost our medicine man that was at the heart of it all.

If it was up to me, I would not release or celebrate a recording like this. As it feels like I am listening to my dying brother trying to keep something going that should have stopped for the good of that brother so he could heal and be well.
