30 Days of Dead

30-days-of-dead-2020

As far as miracles go, November is bountiful. That's right, we're making miracles every day of the month and hoping to fire up your trusty synapses while we're at it.

Each day, we will be giving away an unreleased Grateful Dead track from the vault, selected by Dead archivist David Lemieux. And we're going to put your knowledge to the test with a chance to win prizes, not to mention bragging rights in the community.

So let's get to it, shall we?

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70 show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand all November long.

Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day - a 2021 Grateful Dead Wall Calendar. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered to win the Grand Prize - a copy of our June 1976 boxed set.

Hint:
Two traditional first set closers played here back-to-back, a not uncommon event when the Dead just felt like playing a bit longer

    Put a swing on it

Can't win if I don't try ... had to look back to 2012 for my two clues and then selected one. Good Night all~

I can't even figure out what era this is

I don't think it's from Blues for Allah sessions--Garcia's voice sounds too raggedy

A standout from Blues For Allah in 1975, "Crazy Fingers" was an important part of the setlists on the Dead's comeback tour in 1976, which they dropped after September 1976. It returned in July 1982, with this March 26, 1982 rehearsal predating that by several months.
