From Camus to Rilke, such an interesting journey. Poetry is just the evidence of life, if your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash...........
Right now, listening to Duke Ellington while I work on autopsy reports.............

Beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror which we are barely able to endure, and it amazes us so, because it serenely disdains to destroy us. That's what I heard, anyways.

Joined:4/11/88 Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MIThis crossed my listening radar via a comment re this show earlier today. IWT - only other spring tour '88 show I saw after Hampton run (sold my mail order tickets to Rosemont - school and such but ouch). According to Charlie Miller one of the only circulating SBDs from the year without ambient mics - sounds pretty darn good. It has a To Lay Me Down, which they broke out night 2 in Hampton! Lots of other goodies too! Also features a Drummers' Birthday joke - it's in fact both Drummerz birthdays - and a Happy Birthday sing along before a Brokedown Palace encore. On that note - Happy Birthday Dennis!!

And a happy birthday to Dennis!
Or this could be one of those prankster stage announcements like a fake Billy birthday or an unmarried Bob's 5th wedding anniversary. I just have a note on my calendar from last year when I misinterpreted a post and got it wrong. So either way...
Cheers
Oh, and Dennis, did you see that Tony Rice Unit's classic Manzanita from 1979 is available for pre-order in root beer vinyl from RGM? It features Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Todd Phillips and some David Grisman cameos. I must pull the trigger on that one. It is calling me. It has a Little Sadie and a Nine Pound Hammer. - Forensicdoceleven

Today's commute----Port Chester February 23 1971. Not exactly perfect but it'll do nicely. Unusual Uncle John's Band opener. Unusual mid first set Morning Dew. Nice China/Rider. Decent doses of Pigpen. Delightfully crunchy second set.
Very underrated and always worth a listen. Hey, TPTB, why not release this and include the "missing" parts of February 20 as filler................
Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time......
